Charles Hubert Brannam.
The pottery at Barnstaple, established by his father was inherited by Charles Hubert Brannam in 1879. Working in the local clay, he threw his own pots and towards the end of the 19th century developed the technique of incising designs into wet slip. These designs were done freehand which gave his work an individual and unique feel. As the business grew Brannam employed two additonal designers, John Dewdney in 1882, followed by William Baron in 1885.
