Arts and Crafts Aesthetic Movement 19th Century Design

Arthur Lasenby Liberty opened his famous store in 1887. The store first stocked a range of Oriental pieces and grew with objects from the near and far east and advertised itself as manufacturers of Ancient and Modern Eastern Art from Persia, India, China and Japan. Throughout the 1880's the store developed, mixing pieces from the art movements including  Arts and Crafts, following the lead of Morris & Co and sourcing stock from some of the same suppliers. Liberty's success continued to the present day. In 1903 the famous Tudric range of pewter was introduced with designs by Oliver Baker and Archibald Knox, manufactured by W H Haseler of Birmingham.
